It is a small perennial plant with tiny leaves that are often grey-green in color and a woody stem. it has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for various ailments, including respiratory issues, digestive problems, and skin conditions.

Iranian thyme

Different spices of Thyme are growing in Different parts of Iran. In traditional Persian medicine has the name of  “Hasha” ,  “Thyme” and “thyme al-Humairi”. I9n different parts of Iran you can find different kinds of this herb with different local names. For example in Hamedan they say “Azorbeh” in around Tehran “ Avishan or Avisham”, in Taleqan “Zarveh” in Azerbaijan and lands with Turkish language of the country “Kaklik oti ” and in the other parts it call “Satar”, “Zatar”, “Oushen”, “Ashmeh Koohy”, “Si Sanbar”, “Sou sanbar”.

 

History

Thyme is indigenous to the Mediterranean region. Wild thyme grows in the Levant, where it might have been first cultivated.

the herb has a long history of use that dates back as far as 2750 BC with Sumerian cuneiform tablets suggesting that Thyme be dried and pulverised with pears, figs and water for use as a poultice. The Egyptians used it to embalm their dead, and the Romans threw it on their floors to deter venomous creatures. The ancient Greeks used it in their baths and burnt it as incense in their temples, believing it was a source of courage.

Consuming thyme with all kinds of food is very effective in relieving anorexia. Our suggestion is to pour some dry thyme into a liter of boiling water and infuse it with gentle heat. Now drink this tea five to six times a day after daily meals so that your anorexia is completely cured.

 

Recipes of  thyme

Traditionally, thyme has been used by adults as a tea prepared by steeping dried flowers or dried leaves.

Iranians use it alot in their foods and drinks . thy use it in the following ways:

Use it in the foods:

Whether fresh or dried, it makes food delicious. 

it can be added to foods such as chicken, meat, red meat. Even some vegetable foods (especially beans, eggplant, carrots, and zucchini) are compatible with thyme. It can be used in foods such as pasta, soups, sauces, desserts and pickles. If you like, you can add it to any food and enjoy the taste of thyme.

 

Use it as herbal:

Mix a tablespoon of dry thyme with 2 glasses of beer and let it brew for ten minutes. After ten minutes you can enjoy your thyme tea. In winter, consuming thyme tea can help treat colds and flu.
